Raku Ceramic Empty Pocket
Very representative of Zen Raku with its slightly rough shape, this beautiful decorative object can be used as a pocket on a pretty piece of furniture or on a coffee table, decorated with sweets, why not? Its cracks are so beautiful and its glaze so shiny that it's sure to catch everyone's eye!
A raku pocket tureen in high-gloss white chamotte-glazed stoneware, finely crackled and smoky on the black parts. Its slightly rough shape reveals the chamotte (small pebbles) on the smoky part.
The cracks and matte-black color are obtained by raku firing, an ancient Japanese technique dating back to the 15th century and used for tea ceremonies (see details in the "ABOUT US" tab).
All my pieces are handmade in France, in my ceramic workshop Le raku de Sylvie, located in the Pyrénées Atlantiques near Pau.
As raku is porous, it cannot be used for food.
